Preparing instructors for success in blended learning: The transition from traditional to blended learning

Rationale for study:
I would like to research instructors’ attitude since they carry weight on the success of e-learning.

Research Area:
Instructors’ transition from traditional to blended learning

The problem statement:
University instructors (need country) are ill-prepared to teach blended learning courses (need to support this). So far only hearsay

Purpose:
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study is to identify instructor needs to become competent with audio/video and other tools used in blended learning.

Research: To conduct a qualitative phenomenological study on the changes instructors undergo in becoming competent/successful blended learning instructors.

Method:
Interview instructors at a university in Israel
Number of instructors? Courses? How chosen?

Research Questions:
The research questions will deal with the transition from traditional to blended learning environments. What challenges do Instructors need to overcome in a blended learning course? What support system do blended learning instructors require to be competent in blended learning instruction? What changes did you undergo as you moved from using traditional teaching strategies to using blended teaching strategies? How successful do you perceive you are as a blended learning instructor (1 -5). How do you feel blended teaching affects student achievement?

My thoughts:
Blended learning instruction – what makes quality blended learning course? How do we get instructors to go from A-Z.? What are some of the obstacles? What role does personality or resistance to change play in the process of moving from traditional to blended learning instruction?

Learning about Learning (LAL)

Hi Bloggers, Wiki writers, WebQuesters, and online learners, I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Phoenix online program in education, leadership, curriculum, and instruction. As much as I love researching and writing papers, I have to come up with a problem statement for my dissertation. I am interested in online learning, WebQuests, and ways of integrating technology into the EFL/ESL classroom. My EFL high school students are not motivated to learn in the classroom because they learn English from TV, the Internet, and through music. I am also interested in coaching and relationship education as a way to improve learning. The WebQuest seems to have everything I am interested in: teamwork and social skills, higher order critical thinking skills, and learning by means of technology. But, I can’t come up with a research question/problem. I have two weeks to think things out and finalize my research problem. I hope I am not inconveniencing you but You may be able to help. I would like to say hello to all my visitors and introduce myself. I am formost a learner and then an educator.  I am interested in online learning and instruction.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my parents, husband and children for teaching me so much of what I know about life.

One of things my son taught me when he was 11 was that html is very confusing and takes a lot of work. This was in 1995 when he built his first website. I have been fascinated by technology and online learning ever since. I launched Nellie’s English Projects on December 2003 after 2 months of constant battling with Microsoft FrontPage.  

As a added interest, “Hello World” is more than a phrase for me. It’s a name of a video mail program that Betty Baxter introduced into my life.

Hello World is a streaming video mail that is becoming very popular and is destined to be  the next step in online communication.

There’s no doubt about it. Streaming video has a place online and presents an incredible opportunity to everyone. Studies have shown that using streaming video over the Internet gets people’s attention and increases the likelihood that a message will be acted upon and remembered. And that’s what’s important when you’re communicating online.

Video mail is an excellent way for ESL teachers to use voice for homework and online instruction. Please add your comments and views on the subject of video mail as a learning tool. 

I hope to add new ideas on how to integrate other technological ideas such as Hello World and virtual classrooms into teaching and learning.
